You got me with this paragraph:
Here, John's facial expression became frustrated (at what, Paul couldn't place), and his movements slowed, the sweep of the led taking considerably longer than before, as if he were inching around something; fortifying something that he created, consecrating an idea almost too vulnerable to slap onto a piece of paper.
and maybe possibly I was starting to cry with this one:
The picture John drew was of Paul, quite simply, although there was nothing simple about it, save for the action that Paul was doing - sitting. He was smiling sweetly, his doe eyes wide and understanding, his surroundings oddly abstract and surreal in comparison to how solid and utterly pragmatic that Paul was.
