[It’s the sudden rush of cold and wet that greet Roy Mustang upon arrival, being dropped rather unceremoniously into the junction of rivers. Sputtering, coughing, sore, and forcing himself to wade through the water to the shoreline, he’s more than a little confused at finding that not only is he devoid of injuries, he’s also been stripped of his ( Read more... )

[Whoa, that is not what he expected to hear today. First Ling returns, and now Mustang's here, too? Is there some kind of Amestris invasion going on now?

And... portal... he's heard that before, but with Roy? No way...]

Colonel! You too!?

Actually, it's both. Dead people have showed up here, and... anyone that dies just comes back in a week.

Oh. Well that's just lovely. [Yeah, this is not what he was expecting when he woke up that morning.

He takes a deep breath and mentally files all of the tidbits away for later reference.]

Alright... Others have given me a brief overview on other aspects of this place, but there's one that I'm still not entirely clear on, and I trust you not to give a stupid answer. [Because the idea of walking into an unoccupied room and proclaiming it as one's own is still a little foreign to him] How does one go about finding suitable lodgings?

[He's not even sure what to think about the "stupid answer" part, but whatever, colonel... he'll be helpful for once.]

You could start at the Welcome Center- it's one of the shops in the main plaza. I think there's a list of places to live, though I don't know how up-to-date it is. Either that or just go find an empty apartment and take it, they're not locked or anything.

[All of this talk about just taking! Whatever happened to Equivalent Exchange? This is not equal, this is just crazy! This is making the alchemist in him cringe and weep pitiful tears.]

You mean to tell me they weren't joking? You can literally just walk up and proclaim an unoccupied area as your own? What is wrong with this place?

[Just wait till the experiments and kidnappings start, Roy, then you'll see the equivalence showing.]

There's plenty wrong with Luceti, but that's definitely not the worst of it.

[Oh, he can hardly wait!]

Of course not. That would have been far too easy.

[Ah, the sarcasm, he was waiting for that. Not that he didn't end up with a similar response during his first few days. ...Actually it hasn't shown much improvement with time, either.]

Has anyone given you the guide yet? That should give you way more details, and it'd be faster than just asking a bunch of questions.

Guide? [There's been mention of a guide, but nothing to show that any such thing actually existed. The fact that there's a guide at all isn't really comforting, though, because it means there's that much information to digest.

...but maybe so long as it doesn't come with paperwork, it might not be that bad.]

Luceti has a manual?

[Aha, that's a negatory. Edward pauses to flip through the book for a moment - he has the damn thing bookmarked after multiple read-throughs, so it's a brief silence - and then jots out a little link to the Luceti Guide Raine wrote forever ago.]

Tap that and turn the page on the journal, it should show up there. It's pretty detailed, at least.

[He's still getting used to this journal-communication-device thing, but so far, it's been pretty straightforward. After a bit to skim through the link provided, though...]

There's a bar, a library, and a place to get clothing that isn't white. I think I'll be set for a little while.

You're easily pleased.

[He'll probably enjoy the vacation and slack off. Damn colonel 8|]

If you find your pocketwatch, let me know. [So he can be mad and cranky about it for a week or something.]

The novelty will wear off eventually, I'm sure.

[Hey, slacking off is an art form!]

Why is that? [He'll be on the lookout for it, though, since that's kind of important. Well, it'll at least help him tell the time.]

I've been here for almost five months and mine hasn't shown up yet.

[And he's still somewhat mortified by the idea of someone else finding it. Even if the date wouldn't mean anything to anyone but those who knew him from Amestris, it's... yeah. Personal.]

And how would I know if the one I find is mine and not yours?

Assuming that it's no longer attached to my jacket, that is.

Mine's been sealed shut, so it's pretty obvious. Just don't go forcing it open or something. [Just what he needs, getting heckled for defacing the pocketwatch, since they both know he isn't supposed to. Not that his title is anything more than an old formality at this point...]
