Couldn't have said it better

I came across this post on FSU and it basically sums up my opinion on the ridiculous and tired uproar over "Chanflation" and peoples', especially new fans', perception of him.

I think a lot of the vitriol directed Patrick's way has a whole lot more to do with people deciding for themselves that Patrick is an arrogant asshole who doesn't deserve to ( Read more... )

I completely agree. I'm so tired of people dragging the "Chanflation" issue into every topic about skating. Or worse, being incredibly nasty against a nineteen-year-old guy they don't even know. Especially since plenty of them defend their favorite skaters for saying things that are just as bad or worse and for receiving scores that are just as questionable. I'm too disgusted to even look at the _skating posts anymore. Too many people there are shallow, nasty, and completely unfair in their comments about Patrick. Today I clicked on the post about Kozuka and Takahashi crashing into each other during their practice, and several people brought up the incident between Adam and Patrick (which was weeks ago). Some were actually claiming that Patrick purposely crashed into Adam. It's so ridiculous! Ugh.

/end rant

As Tomas demonstrate, haters gonna hate. ;) Best of luck to Chan this season.

I know. The stuff about the crash is exactly what I was talking about with the lying. Even people like AJ who hate PChan agree it was a mistake, and think about it. Patrick got hurt too, and it's kind of stupid to take a risk like that.

Especially since plenty of them defend their favorite skaters for saying things that are just as bad or worse and for receiving scores that are just as questionable.

Exactly. But he's the punching bag there and the more people get mad at him for stupid stuff, the worse he'll seem the next time something happens.

I'm perfectly fine with people disliking his skating. The double standards just really bother me.

Yeah, amen to this whole post. I'm not a Chan fan either, but I loathe Plushenko beyond all reason and it kills me to see the same people who elevate Plushenko as some sort of god of skating bash Chan, who looks positively self-effacing next to Plushy and who's a much better overall skater. (Jumps excepted, of course.)

It's all the more ironic since so many of them were going on and on about how the quad was undervalued after the Olympics. They wanted the quad to get more value, they got it.. and everything that goes with it! :P

Yeah I totally agree! I mean I'm not even a PChan fan in particular, I think his skating is great and I have nothing against him but overall I'm just kind of meh on him, but I hate the attitude towards him on _s soooo much and how everyone gangs up against people who defend him. I follow a bunch of _skaters on twitter and enjoy reading their twitters but I've been really disappointed lately because when it comes to PChan their nasty sides really come out :/ And not just against PChan but all Canadian skaters... it makes me really sad!

Ugh and yup lots of skater say jerky things. Joubert bothers me the most because he is typically over scored and has said lots of terrible things and yet people feel bad for him and give him a free pass on pretty much everything, so annoying.

Absolutely. I think people for the most part accept that his footwork is great, but overlook the other elements, even his jumps which are awesome when he lands them. And one of the main reasons he scores so high is that his programs are almost perfectly tailored to get as much points from the COP as possible. Whether or not that's a good thing is a personal opinion. :)

About the Plushy/Lysacek/Brian thing, IA so so so much. Actually, most of fandom's favorites have said at least one douche-y thing, but they often get excused because they're.. well, favorites. Except for Evan. Haha.
