bear with me for this one.
“I can't believe we're having this argument again.” Luke sighed, the tension visibly running through his brow. “Really? You're not over it by now?”
“I don't think this is unreasonable, Luke.”
“Of course you don't. You've never thought anything you've done has been unreasonable. It's your thing.”
“Is that really fair?”
“You want to talk about fair?” Luke cried, throwing his hands up and rolling his eyes in a simultaneous display of drama. “Because I'm telling you, you won't win this.”
“It's not a competition!” The frustration continued to build between the two, and it was almost at breaking point. Though if they were being honest, it had been going in that direction for what felt like months. “I just don't understand.”
“No, you don't.” Luke agreed, crossing his arms and standing his ground. “You don't understand, and that's the problem. That's always been the problem between us.”
“Why are you being so dramatic?”
“I'm being dramatic? I wasn't the one that brought this up, you know. That's all on you."
"Fine. You know what, I don't care. Just forget about it." A pause, a moment. "I just don't know why the first thing you get published had to be about him."
"I didn't mean for it to happen, Noah." He spoke softly, as though he was ashamed.
But truthfully, he could never feel that way about his work.
Because the pain and torture and ultimately the love that poured out of him as he wrote about Reid was exquisite.
