Out with the imporant stuff first: Ritu and I are back together. Like any relationship, the reasons behind this decision are complicated, emotional and strewn with drama. That being said, one of the biggest factors was the realization that I had been crumbling under the pressure of one of the most cliche relationship-killers around: fear of ( Read more... )

YEAH!!! :)

Hey there was a speaker at one of my focus groups last week, talking about "Heart Math" and how golfers use it a lot for emotional control staying "in the zone". Have you heard of it? I instantly thought of you while she talking. It sounds like an interesting program. It's a method of stress control that focuses on learning to recognize and change the physiological reactions of our bodies to it.

I've never heard of it, although it sounds like something I might be interested in... not only for golf but for daily life, too. Did the speaker go into much detail on it?

Okay, I saw Holly today (the gal in my focus group) and got her info for you:
Holly Thomas, Licensed Heartmath 1 on 1 Provider
P: (408) 596-1396
email: hlybry (at) gmail . com

The Heartmath monitor that is so popular with golfers (and a few pros too she said) is a device that shows your heart rate, and is used as a tool for putting the practices that Heartmath teaches into use.

Holly herself does not promote the device directly. She does phone consultations and one on one counseling, teaching people how to monitor their physiological reactions to stress, learn to recognize the stress triggers that are causing those changes, what those changes are, etc. (I'm not explaining this well at all I fear). She would be happy to explain it all better to you if you want to contact her.

It does sound very neat, and I'm thinking about checking it out more myself. It's just a matter of time and money at the mo.

There's a website for Heartmath, but when I looked it up it seemed to be focused more on just the monitoring device and not the system.

p.s.
I don't unfortunately know Holly well, as she just joined the group. But she seems like a very together person. She is also very much into yoga, and health, and so this work she's doing appears to be a genuine passion for her about tools/coping with stress.

Now, now. I would never openly say "duh, moron" but merely ask leading questions to help you arise at the fact that perhaps you have some "issues". However, now that this little episode has passed I can say with great matter-of-factnes...Yay Jake! I'm so glad you got your head out of your ass!

Yeah, that whole head-up-the-ass thing gets to be really uncomfortable after a while. I guess sometimes we have to learn things the hard way.

Yes, 'tis true. I'm just happy you're a fast learner. :)

It would have been nice if I've been a bit faster in this case - but at least I didn't embrace my idiocy for too long... and as a result, I still have my girl. Bullet dodged!
