A couple nights ago Ritu and I finally got around to watching Sicko. (thanks shiromaguro!) Yeah, I know you've all seen it already. But damn. Just damn... now we have to move ( Read more... )

Ditto. And based on what I've said, it's the wealthiest in those countries that carry the heaviest burden of the taxes; it's a massive cultural shift from our way of live in the US. Over there, those with the means help those without.

And just think... what if all the money we (as a country) dumped into health insurance were channeled into a government-run health program instead? Throw in a small tax boost and you'd have one hell of a funding source!

Can we get the internets out there? Just because I want better healthcare doesn't mean I'm willing to give up the netz! ;)

I'd be saving $550 a month by not having to pay for private medical insurance. I'd totally funnel that money into a pipeline!

We have really good insurance (I.E. NOT KAISER) and I just had to pay $150.00 for a prescription. And the retail on the drug is almost $500.00. This is monthly, and only one out of six drugs that I am currently taking.

You can imagine how pissed we were after watching that movie.

I hope you feel better soon. I know my man would like to play some more golf with you. He's been waiting.

I never did see any obvious explanations in Sicko as to why an inhaler that goes for $100 in the US goes for less than $1 in Cuba. Was that part of the whole government-covered healthcare system, I wonder?

Golf coming soon. I'm feeling pretty good and getting ready to hit the range for the first time in months... once it's not freezing and raining, that is. :)

Golf in the freezing rain is INVIGORATING... not to mention much less crowded.

As for prices, I suspect it likely has something to do with what the economy can take. In a depressed economy, you can't expect the citizens to be able to fork out $100 a pop. "What the market can bear..." and such.
'Course, I'm not an economist... as such, take anything I say about it with a grain (or handful) of salt.
