I'm curious about what everyone in this community does in terms of occupation, what everyone here is pursuing to be or have thought of becoming.

I'm so curious.

I kind of recently just figured out that I was an INFP, and it's amazing how accurate the analyses were. And then, I found out that most of the occupations in the career list of an INFP were

I did a four year teaching degree straight out of high school and then decided I hated teaching and quit 6 months after I started my first job.

Then I bummed around for three years - I had 17 jobs in that time, anything from insurance sales to web design.

Then I went back to teaching and quite liked it as long as I wasn't stuck in a classroom all day. I ended up being a sports coordinator. I was teaching for nearly 9 years in total.

Now I'm in training as a police officer and want to get into traffic work and accident investigation after I've been a general duties cop for a few years.

What about teaching in a school did you hate? I'm looking at that as an option, but it makes me very very nervous.

The thing I hated the most was the rigidity of the routine and living my life by the school bell. I taught different things everyday, but the routine was the same every day.

I've been many things. I've worked in a comic store for three years as a manager. I worked in a museum as children's learning coordinator. I've worked two months in a Dillard's, passing time though only.

I love to write and read, got a BA and MA in English, which I just finished up last December. And in January I moved out to South Korea where I'm presently employed for fourteen months teaching intensive preschool in English to Korean children

Right now I have an office job dealing with overseas vendors. It's not what I want to do forever, but it's interesting for now, dealing with customs rules and keeping all of my invoices and containers organized and being on top of things.

And I work in advertising too ... I work as designer full time, but do some side writing projects -- blogs and copywriting, to help out.

i think the overactive imagination helps in advertising :)

And what is advertising but the combination of those two interests, psychology and writing? My grandfather, who was an ad-man back in the '30's suggested to me in the late sixties,when I had no idea what to do with my life, that I enter the advertising field. I was far too pure for that( fear of violating my own ethics) and wound up in the army writing the occasional intelligence briefing. Well, go figure...

After I got out of the service, truck driving, manual labor at a plant nursery, and finally working in a grocery store bakery have made up the sum of my work life. Oddly enough in the past couple of years, I've wound up writing and recording department ads for the store intercoms. Advertising!

Writing is a good path. You can make a living at it. It can serve as a spiritual practice. There are plenty of twists and turns on the path and you may find yourself taking worthwhile side-trips.
