A bit dark: Orphan Black.
Comic book dark: Agents of Shield
Daft as a brush not really dark: Once A Upon A Time

I'd second all of these. With a coupel of caveats

Agents of SHIELD takes a horribly long tme to get going. You can probably skip most of the first half season (there's a guide here http://io9.com/which-episodes-you-must-watch-to-catch-up-on-agents-of-1572676925)

Once Upon a Time seems to be very much love-it-or-hate-it.

I love Orphan Black. Serious slow burner at first but I think you'll love it too.

I'm finding Orphan Black heavy going, still on Season 1 episode 8.

I'd suggest either Fringe or Grimm, both of which I'm enjoying. Warehouse 13 is also enjoyable if you don't mind it being fairly episodic and "thing" of the week.

There seems to be a rule that there can be at most one female character depicted on any film poster.
