*Sigh*...

Normally, I really like my job. I work in a nerd store, how can I not? But the last three days have been really boring. Due to obvious reasons with volcanoes and airplanes, our shipments have been delayed - and when they got here, the upstairs computer crashed, so we couldn't register the new stock. And April is a slow month. Meaning that all I've ( Read more... )

WHO ARE YOU COSPLAYING AS?

Also: your job sounds awesome! Man, I wish there were jobs like that around here. Even if they weren't available for me, it'd be great just to know they were there. This place is painfully geekphobic - hypocritically so.

You'll see. I'll post a picture if I get the dang costume ready.

I actually met a Dutch woman at the store who got stranded when the planes were cancelled. She told me there aren't comic/game/fantasy-scifi shops like my workplace in the Netherlands. Is this something you can confirm, then?

...Wanna come visit me this summer? We have a fairly nice guest room.

Oh my. I am extremely flattered by the offer and would LOVE to come. For practical reasons, though, I'll have to think about it. Lemme get back to you. I'm sure I still have your e-mail address around here somewhere...

In the mean time!

I don't know what kind of store you work at exactly, but I think I can guess, and... yeah, I second the lady. I actually do know of some stores that sell one or two types of nerdy stuff, but it is extremely easy to get the impression that even those don't exist. I only managed to find them because I have a habit of roaming the city whenever I have an especially excessive amount of free periods in between lectures.

The most common type seem to be comic book stores, which often have a seperate manga corner these days. I know one of those in Amsterdam's "China Town" that also sells related merchandise, and one in Utrecht (another big city), but hell if I remember where in Utrecht. Then there's the tiny sci-fi and fantasy merchandise store in Amsterdam that nearly made my brain explode because it sold ( ... )

(If you don't have my e-mail, I'll PM it to you - but I won't put it on a public post.)

Sounds like you guys actually have more, but more spread out. And only in big cities. You only find my store in the bigger towns as well, but, well, it's Norway. "Big" for us when it comes to settlements aren't particularly big.

I mean, I live in Bergen, which is the second largest city in Norway - with a little over 250 000 inhabitants.

I'm trying to get better at using LJ again. Fingers crossed I remember!

Couldn't you just, you know, "familiarise yourself with" (i.e. read) the merchandise during downtime? :~D That would be sweet.

8th of May? Really? Nice - freedom from the Nazis and free comic books all in one! The cosplaying sounds like fun. Who will you be?
