i guess the biggest problem is the contrast. bright spots and dark spots too far apart in range. you need wider and more even illumination. try daylight. or if you don't want natural light: diffusion panels; foamcore bouces, if you can't afford to buy commercial products.
other things to think about: illuminating the hair separately. trying to keep your compositions simple and focused instead of trying to include too much. dont make your hot spots over exposed, even if it means alot of the pic might go rather dark. there is an elegance to shadow fall-off
