My Inner 4 Year Old was most insistent that I stay home to play and watch cartoons today, but I beat her into submission ( Read more... )

It's cool that so much of my flist is watching/rewatching Avatar right now. :D

Speaking of cartoons... Finished Book 1 of Avatar and started Book 2. Loved the ending of Book 1, but what's with channeling the Scooby Doo monster for the Water-Avatar state? Granted, this version was more impressive, but still... I expected a bit more. Zuko and Iroh cutting off their ponytails/topknots was more affecting than that.

One of those other people said something like "everything Avatar-related is just filler for the Zuko" storyline. That's sort of how it was for me, too. While the Avatar storylines are fun, the emotion of the series comes from the Zuko end of things.

Thinking about it, that kind of makes sense. The series is aimed at pre-teen boys, so the Avatar end of stuff is probably for them. The Zuko stuff seems more aimed at the adult viewers and the kids probably yawn over it.

LOL. Zuko is much more interesting, though I must say I'm a Sokka fan as well. Only on 2-5 atm, so idk if he gets much more development (don't tell me either way).

I don't necessarily think they yawn over it, but given that this series aired on Nick on weekend mornings (at least, that's when my son found them to be on and let me know :D), it's probably aimed more at the elementary school set than the pre-teen/middle school set. As such, most of those kids are going to think Zuko's scary - maybe a little cool with the firebending - but they're not going to understand the anger or Emo!Zuko moments.
