A Polite Furore: Irish Carbomb Cupcakes

I am a big fan of the blog Smitten Kitchen. It’s written by a talented cook who writes about the food she makes for her self and her site-photographer husband in her small New York kitchen. Irish Carbombs: offensive or over-sensitive?

As someone not directly connected to the issue I'd find it tasteless. I applaud the blogger's prompt and practical reaction, though.

Catchy but offensive. The new generic name makes it so sound flat and well, for lack of better term, generic. Whiskey and beer just don't cut it. But props to the blogger for being considerate and speedy. That's one yummilicious recipe though.

I have to admit, I had many "Irish Carbombs" over the years - often at Irish-style pubs run by "off the boat" Irish immigrants. It never even occurred to me that the name was offensive or insensitive - and you guys know me, I'm not normally an insensitive person. It was just a name of a drink to me, and the only connotation to "bomb" I gave was the fact that the shot is dropped in the beer (there are jager bombs, etc., that also use the term bomb in a drink.) I simply never thought about why "car" was there or what it meant ( ... )

So, I move that the drink (and the cupcakes, which sound awesome) should be given another name, because they are awfully tasty.

I agree. In fact we should try to invent one. Of course, now my brain is blanking out. Any ides?
