I know that part of the reason I'm bummed is because it looks like Proposition 8 passed in California.  I had really hoped that along with MA and CT, CA could lead the way in this fight for justice.  I wish that VA could, but two years ago, we made that tragic decision

If I were you, I'd just smilingly refuse to discuss politics with your friends. If you've always discussed politics before, this may be tricky, but you can just tell them that you are tired of talking about the election and/or that it's just a subject you'd prefer not to discuss, and suggest some other topic. Hopefully they will get the message.

From what I've heard, there is already a legal challenge that was filed this afternoon, because it was a misuse of our proposition system.

We'll be careful hun. Despite the fact that I am sure they are disappointed in the outcome, I think we will be too busy enjoying the visit to get into serious talks...and we can always steer it away from that.

As for if/when your folks find out...well, you'll still have me :)

I'm in the same place now. I think the only way we'll reduce abortions is by preventing unwanted pregnancy in the first place, which comes down to education and healthcare. I've successfully kept my conversations with my mother about prevention, so we've yet to talk about whether I still think all abortion should be illegal.
