Gee.. sounds familiar.. but here we call them carpet lickers eenothough the ass is probably big enough.

Like if predictions are true to what I hear yet another zombie is going to be promoted over me despite the hard work and my basic ability to THINK.

cuz then i'd be totally pissed. this is like some std that's spreading around and burning all the hard-working folks in offices everywhere.

i hope your hard work pays off for you.

I hope so too.

We're largely runnign 2 managers short right now. Two managers that we have currently are going part-time only available for weekends because of university. There's another that's also supposed to be going part-time as well.

There's another "manager" who is close to getting his ass canned or demoted at the very least. He's a complete fucktard. There's too much to tell you on that regard.

I swear.. if I'm not the next one... she's gonna hear it from me.

It's all about who you know, not what you know. Reputation is good, but in the end, if you're not the one in line buddied up to the decision make in some way, you don't stand a chance to the other guy who is, no matter what your overall reputation or qualifications are. I learned that lesson quite a while ago so now, while I strive to be the best at whatever I do, I also make sure I take time out to network and get to know the people around me, particularly higher ups, on a friendly basis. Right now it turns out that's paying off a bit because in the job hunt I'm running across people that I was friends with and worked with previously who are going out of their way to give glowing recommendations, unsolicited, just based on their experience with me from years ago.

you're right. iniquitous1 August 24 2004, 11:41:22 UTC
but then i've gotta wonder if it's more important to do mediocre work but a stellar job at kissing ass or if it's more important to do a stellar job but a mediocre job at kissing ass.

I know my answer, and it probably jives with your answer, but importance is subjective.

PS I do a mediocre job at ass-kissing because I don't do well at faking liking someone, but thankfully I find I can figure most people out enough that I can get over the annoying stuff and like them as a person. :)

There's also... are you doing you're job too well that there would be a HUGE gap in the workplace if you were moved up?

I've felt like that since about.. oh November of last year. I'm largely the only one with a work ethic and a sense of responsibility at my job. All the managers that have been elevated were easily replaceable.

I, on the other hand, do the work of 4-5 people depending on the day. It just amazes me since working backshift how much the place has gone to hell during the day.

They can't tell me they don't have time to do "stuff" beause I did "stuff". And a lot more "stuff" that some are refusing to recognize.

Exactly why I never got promoted at my job. I'm just not an ass-kisser... and over 2 years, I saw almost everyone on my team get promotions... That's the American way, I suppose.
