I think you are missing another angle. Is what 50 doing harmless? Theoretically, yes, a battle of words should remain just that. It is the mindset of those who would construe the perceived (or blatant) insult as something worth attempted murder which is the real problem. The reaction is nowhere near proportionate to the initial action.
yeah, but while it's not proportionate, it's still a catalyst and he knows it. he's guilty of creating the environment which is making it okay for other folks to react in a violent manner.
