It's so rewarding when the parents take after their children :)

I JUST read about The Hurt Locker, and I'm shocked and angry that I hadn't heard of it before. Being a soldier and all, I feel like I really need to see that movie and missed out on something.

My little sisters-in-law and my little brother-in-law just came back from watching Alice in Wonderland. Truth be told, I'm a classic Tim Burton/Depp fan, but something about this one put me off and I elected not to see it. Or maybe I'm still just "ugh" at Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

I thought Christopher Waltz was amazing in IB too, and strangely, "THAT'S A BIIIINGOOO :D" has been stuck in my head all weekend. Unfortunately, along with my Watchmen Ultimate Cut set, the GN and all my other WM meta stuff, I left my Inglourious Basterds DVD in my hometown when I moved! ;___;

I still have to watch Hurt Locker myself, but wow -- I'll be curious to see your perspective on it!

Yeah, there is something about Alice that makes you feel that Burton is just phoning them in these days. It's visually stimulating (naturally), but that's obviously not enough. I enjoyed it well enough when I was drunk and in the theatre alone, but analyzing the film critically afterwards is more of a disappointment. No need to see it; you're good.

I rarely buy DVDs, but I think I'll have to get Basterds!! He had me drop-jawed and laughing in that first scene, so that was all the hook I needed.

Lovely photo of your mom! She's really into it, huh. Such fun!

One of my nieces just got accepted by Harvard. She'd have to get a ton of financial aide in order to attend. But I'm so pleased and proud for her. Is it a cool place? It must be a fabulous school.

She got a bit caught up in my enthusiasm, I think! That, and she wanted to try out her new camera. I was so proud :)

Harvard is the typical ivy-covered ancient brick college I always imagine universities should be. Huge congrats to your niece; that's fantastic. Mom and I go to see the Hasty Pudding Show as a ritual now. Judging by the students who write and perform that show, I'd have to avow that they're a very talented brilliant student body! I love Boston. I think I could live there.
