The weather was fair for the day and Enzan was taking his time heading home. He carried a small canvas bag with a few food items he was planning on cooking with that night ( Read more... )

Of course, such a cute little scene couldn't be left alone forever. And dimensional sliding can be so very unobtrusive when you've had years upon years of practice --

Enzan would have just enough time to see the looming and distinctly blue-tinted shape reflected in the window before a pair of hands closed in to try and cover his eyes.

"Hello there."

Enzan blinked at the reflection, but didn't really move. Covering his eyes would be no problem.

"Eh?" There was some hesitation, "Hello there, yourself."

He gave a smile and with a free hand, tried poking back at Kanon.

Kanon was easily pokeable -- seeing as how he was hardly more than a handsbreadth away from leaning on Enzan's back -- and, judging from the flesh being prodded by Enzan through the man's shirt, was still in fine trim.

Grinning fiendishly, Kanon promptly did lean. Enzan found himself on the verge of being enveloped in a rib-crushing bearhug with Kanon all but breathing down his neck.

"I would've come stalking you before this, but life's been 'entertaining' lately."

You could almost hear the air-quotes.

"Ah, I see--"

His cheeks began to pink as Enzan thought how this might look to people in public. He did his best not to act embarrassed.

" 'Entertaining' in a good way or bad way?"

His free hand moved to try and nudge Kanon's hands away so that he could see again.

"Don't mind if I do. Just roaming around with no real direction can be a nice enough change; but eventually, you tend to want a goal again."

"Besides, I want to know where you live so I can pinpoint you much more easily --"

Now that was a point Enzan hadn't considered.

"On second thought, maybe I should take you somewhere else." He chuckled, only teasing and continuing on his route.

"Don't make any suggestions if you don't want to think them through --"

For a moment Kanon's rumble sounded seductive; unfortunately for the effect, it was promptly ruined by his dissolving into laughter.

"I'll find you readily enough, but I wouldn't mind paying you a proper visit."

"I was only teasing."

They were beginning to approach an apartment complex.

"How did you find me, anyway?"

"For me? Just about any time -- we don't stand on formality much when there's no Holy War, and if I'm already busy Shion won't come looking for me unless someone's trying to kill humanity again ..."

"But what about you? I suppose you have a work schedule and all, right?"

"I do. I manage to grab weekends off now and then. So that is something we can maybe shoot for. Say, a month from now?"

"Works for me --"

A few sips of tea later, and Kanon was giving Enzan his most affable of rakish smiles.

"So, how much should I calibrate the Normal-O-Meter for your visit?"

Enzan did his best to hide his grin behind his tea. He thought it over for a moment.

"After seeing the Nexus, I think I can handle a lot of things. I'll trust your judgment on this one."
