Summary: Shanghai Hotel. Ghost Stories. One slightly scared maknae.
“Zhou Mi?” A soft knock at the door startled him out of a deep sleep, and Zhou Mi sat straight up in bed, his eyes flying around his room. He could have sworn someone had just said his name. A chill ran up his spine, and he closed his eyes, concentrating on listening. The hotel they were staying at in Shanghai was very old, and all night long Hyukjae had told ghost stories, until Ryeowook's eyes were as big as saucers and he cried that he would never sleep again. Henry looked terrified to even move off the couch in the suite they were sharing. When they had all gone off to bed, the only one scoffing that it was all a bunch of hooey had been Kyuhyun.
But as he listened, the sound came again.
“Zhou Mi? It’s Kyuhyun. Are you awake?”
Zhou Mi rubbed his eyes, relieved that it was Kyuhyun and not some freaky ghost trying to get his attention. He stood up, walked over to the door and opened it. Kyuhyun was standing there in his pajamas, his eyes looking slightly wider than normal.
“What is it?” Zhou Mi asked, worried. “Are you okay? Are you sick? What's wrong?”
“Sungmin is sleeping with Wook.” Kyuhyun explained, walking into Zhou Mi’s room like he owned it. He plopped down on Zhou Mi’s bed and looked around. Zhou Mi frowned. After a few minutes silence while Kyuhyun absently picked at the blanket, he finally exhaled a frustrated sigh.
“I can’t sleep. Hyung’s stupid ghost stories. And I swear I heard a noise in the closet.” He said, his lips pursed at having to admit that he was scared. It took all of Zhou Mi’s willpower not to laugh.
“You can sleep here with me if you want.” He said, forcing his voice to have a casual tone.
“Thanks.” Kyuhyun smiled, and then flung himself back into the bed, wriggling under the sheets and blankets and looking at Zhou Mi expectantly. “Where are you going to sleep?”
His answer was a feather pillow to the face. Kyuhyun yelped indignantly and then laughed, scooting over to make room. Zhou Mi got back into bed and pulled the covers up again, looking over at Kyuhyun. He was close enough to see the acne scars on Kyuhyun’s handsome face. He waited for a thank you, but Kyuhyun just looked back. Disappointment settled in Zhou Mi's chest and he sighed.
“There’s nothing here but me. So go to sleep.” he ordered. Kyuhyun opened his mouth to protest, but Zhou Mi rolled over, his back to Kyuhyun. In the darkness he waited, wondering what Kyuhyun would do at such a clear brush off.
“Zhou Mi?” Kyuhyun asked after several moments of silence.
“Hmm?”
“Thank you for letting me sleep here.” Kyuhyun said quietly, and Zhou Mi smiled. He rolled over, planted a big wet kiss on Kyuhyun’s lips and wrapped his arms around him.
“See, was that so hard?” Zhou Mi smiled.
Kyuhyun snorted and rolled his eyes, but let Zhou Mi hold him. Within a few minutes, they had both drifted off to sleep, wrapped up together in the big bed.
The ghost in the closet watched them and smiled to himself, pleased that his mission had been accomplished.
