Cave awoke with an awful headache and a dry taste in his mouth.

“Blarg...How long have I been asleep?”

He looks around the room, noting the change in cleanliness. Oh good, it must have worked. Cave rose from his bed smelling sweetness in the air, hoping fervently that this wasn't another alcohol induced dream. Exiting the room holding his head, he continues inspecting his surroundings for his assistant.

“Mr. Johnson?” Caroline met him in their little hallway, apron on and bowl of fresh icing in hand. She offers him a relieved smile. “I'm glad you're awake. How are you feeling?”

Hopefully he'd remain awake. The apartment had been far too quiet with him asleep and she was running out of things to do. As soon as the place began to resemble any part of her ordeal of pain and solitude, she'd find some new project to work on in the apartment. Besides dinner, there were pies, cookies, and two complete cakes besides the one in the oven. Everything had been cleaned, everything polished and back where it belonged.

“Dinner is ready, if you're hungry.”

How did Cave feel? His beloved assistant had been missing, tortured, and ultimately killed in front of his eyes. He was forced to work with a man he loathed, while spending sleepless nights searching for her. And Cave couldn't be quite certain, but he thought he remembered flipping a giant robot like a damn flapjack. And now here he was, with his Assistant. Safe and sound.

“I feel... Good. Pretty damn good.”

So much more left unsaid. 'I missed you.' 'Why didn't you tell me so I could get help sooner?' 'I missed you.' 'I'm sorry I couldn't get you earlier.' 'I'm a wreck without you.' 'I MISSED YOU.'

But no, Cave wouldn't allow himself to express that out-pour of emotion. Instead he smiled warmly, and sat at the table.

“I'm starved. Feels like I haven't eaten in days.”

“I don't think you did, Sir.” She placed the bowl down and began to fix his plate. “Most of the food was how I remember leaving it.”

Pot roast was soon placed before him with a hearty helping of vegtables and a glass of milk with buttered bread. Once Cave had everything he needed, Caroline sat at the table as well. Without a plate of her own. Instead of eating, she simply folded her hands on the table.

“I'm sorry if I worried you.”
