To this second wave feminist who just turned 50 and had these discussions 30 years ago, when maybe the idea was new to most folks, that we have to make these statements and post these words as if they are new information nowis unbelievably depressing.
The absence of no is not yes. The only thing that means yes is yes.
How hard is this?
(Also, *hugs* - you are incredibly brave for putting this out there in public, and I am beyond horrified that once again we have to make these arguments in our own flesh.)
If not for the round of horrifically appalling victim blaming going on, I might never have said it. If not for the bravery of those in fandom who stood up and said they were abused, raped, and violated, I definitely would never have said it.
It's beyond sad to find this here, in fandom, where I have always felt safe to be myself.
