I am so proud of my drama club kids. We took 5th place out of 9 at the sectional tournament yesterday, and two of my kids won individual medals. They were outstanding. They gave the best performance I have ever seen them give, and I definitely cried back stage when I went back there to see them after the show ( Read more... ) -

Books, life, and family... oh my
Middlesex might be one of the best books I've ever read. It is this awesome American epic about a Greek-American family and their deep secrets. The narrator is neither male nor female (or, actually, both male and female) and is very aware of the fact, often stopping to discuss the differences between male and female (narration and otherwise). Cozy
Sitting here, in the dim hours just before the sun sets, watching the snow fall, drinking hot chocolate, and listening to the Kings of Convenience somehow fills me with a sense that everything is going to be OK.
(Even if I am grading papers.) -
Prodigy kids
You know, I'm watching Oprah talk to child prodigies. She's talking to a fifth grade kid who knows almost EVERYTHING about all of the presidents. He says he's going to run for President in 2032. I think he could do it, too... but I find myself wondering if, once he gets to high school, he'll lose his drive in favor of fitting in. Or, even worse ( Read more... ) -

Last night, I did yoga. It was a different kind of yoga than I'm used to doing, and it was rather humiliating because the instructor kept having to correct me, but it felt good.
Today, I feel like I can't even pick up my legs. Call me a masochist, but it feels really good.
