Taking Rider out shopping was always a crapshoot. It was necessary, though, because Waver had to get supplies if they were to continue to effectively fight this war, and he couldn’t just leave his Servant at home and Rider refused to revert to his spirit form for any prolonged period of time. Hopefully, though, he could keep his unruly Servant in check long enough to do what he had to do-and, if necessary, Waver had enough money on him that he could probably indulge some of his unusual whims. Rider had an unfortunate liking for video games and other frivolous things, but if buying him a game or documentary would keep him from causing a ruckus, then Waver would just deal with it.

Rider was also very easily distracted, and Waver was well aware that trying to keep him with him wasn’t going to work very well. It was best to give him some money and leave him to his own devices with a stern warning not to do anything foolish. At least he understood the concept that things needed to be bought, so if anything caught his eye, so long as he had Waver’s wallet everything would work out all right.

Well. Perhaps it wouldn’t be all right for Waver’s wallet, but there were more important things than money.

Ten minutes ago, he had left Rider to amuse himself. Thankfully, his Servant was easy to spot in a crowd, and Waver was able to make his way over toward him easily enough.

“Oi, kid! Come here.”

Waver managed to get through the crowd and over to him, though he was jostled quite a bit in the meantime.

“What is it?”

His Servant was looking at a photo booth with interest- the kind that took a series of four or five pictures and printed them out all in a row for about a hundred yen. It was one of those kitschy things that amused tourists and little girls with spare change, and Waver had no time for-

“Ghk--!”

He was being dragged into the booth by Rider. He really wished he could have been more surprised about this.

“Rider, what the hell are you doing?!” Waver struggled to get out of his Servant’s grip, but he was no match for Rider’s strength. “Let me go!”

“Just be quiet for a minute, kid.” Rider stuck a hundred-yen note into the money slot. A countdown flashed on the kiosk’s screen.

“Goddammit, Rider--!” It was kind of hard to breathe when he was smashed up against his Servant’s side, but he was starting to wiggle out from underneath his arm…

Rider tried to grab for him again, Waver tried to evade, and in the very cramped space of that photo booth, chaos broke out just as the flashes went off. By the end of it, Waver had somehow managed to get over Rider’s shoulder, face-up and facing forward, the blood rushing to his head as he dangled.

“Rider.”

“Yeah?” There was a massive grin on Rider’s face.

“Put me down.”

His Servant grabbed him by the collar and lifted him with one hand, depositing him outside the kiosk. He followed shortly after and grabbed the strip of photos when they developed. He took one look at them and started laughing; Waver just pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed.
