Can't say I'm one to believe that sort of thing, but I suppose your idea makes sense.
Though, I imagine Valentine promoted love in a way. According to this legend he performed secret marriages under the rule of the Roman emperor Claudius II who, apparently, passed a law prohibiting young men from getting married so that they'd focus on military careers.

But, if nothing else, that story there of St. Sebastian was a bit more interesting. What with the surviving being a human pin cushion part.
