I'm glad to see you back around and I hope it becomes more of a regular thing. :-)
Honestly, I'm being more and more turned off by the idea of "traditional" publishers the more I think about it. I don't like the "gatekeeper" mentality a lot of people express about them. More and more, I like the idea of small publishing houses and/or self-publishing as well. You have more control over your own work and smaller houses, I would imagine, are more likely to be willing to work with a writer not to mention taking a chance on somebody without a "name" in the industry. I would really like to talk to you more about it at some point when you have the time if you don't mind?
I'm glad to see that despite being so busy that you still have joy and beauty in your life. :-)
I'd be happy to talk to you about it. I came into it thinking I was just going to be a business partner, and getting my own books published, but I have learnt so much about it, and the industry is constantly changing; it goes a few steps forward and stumbles back a step. But, no matter how hard the Big Six have tried, they cannot put the indie beast back in its cage. I'm not sure which genre you write in but I'm guessing horror and there is a huge market for that, regardless of publisher
( ... )
I am very glad that the indie beast can't be put back in its cage. I've always been a supporter of the "Mom & Pop" type places than I ever have been of corporations. Corporations are cold-blooded beings who worry about nothing more than the bottom line. Mom & Pop's tend to care about people. Which is why it appeals to me. So I'm really glad to see that more people are going the "indie" route. I really hope that enough people begin going that way and taking the power away from the corporations that they're forced to change the way they do things or just cease to exist.
What I wanted to talk to you about was the submission guidelines for inknbeans... what sort of writing are you looking for and the basics basically. Whatever sort of wisdom you can impart about submitting? I'd be really interested in knowing.
Thanks, you. I'm glad to not be giving up. I feel more determined than ever actually. :-)
