銀色の空 - [ Giniro no Sora : Sky of Silver ]

A dull droning voice came from the back of the class, a collective yawn of boredom from the students as their current teacher taught them in a boring, dreary tone of speech that would have even made the most hyperactive of children weary. The floor fan at the back f the classroom buzzed monotonously as it blew gusts of cooling air towards the sweating pupils in-between sputtering creaks, the teenagers themselves cooling off after an exciting game of handball earlier.

At the corner of the class, sitting at the back and at the right, was a tanned, raven-haired girl with her shoulder-length hair tied into a ponytail, secured with a red hair band. Her black eyes glittered with bored tears as she stifled a yawn, turning to look out of the open window where a sparrow flickered past her vision towards the sky.

The Hawk-

-flies freely…

The girl sighed as she laid her head on the surface of her desk, the cool plastic of the surface cooling off her sweaty forehead. Her eyes turned to look back dully towards the teacher, who continued to jabber something about moles and calculations. Flat out bored and exhausted, she yawned loudly, her action catching the eye of the teacher, who frowned and sternly told her to wake up. Trying hard not to scowl too obviously, the girl scratched her head tiredly as she lifted her head off the desk as the collective wing beats of two dozen pigeons came through the open window.

Flying freely-

In the endless sky…

The bell rang, signaling the end to another boring lesson at school. The entire class dragged themselves up from their seats to greet their teacher, including the girl as she pawned for the third time in the hour while the pupils sat back down. As soon as the teacher left, the entire class suddenly burst into life and activity, like a flower booming under the morning light. Girls chatted amongst each other about the latest rumors and gossips circulating about school as boys whipped out their Playstation Portables and Nintendo DSes and started to play as well.

Effectively ignoring the ruckus her class was making, the girl looked out of the window and towards the corridor outside, where a sparrow was perched upon the rail, chirping brightly as its small head darted quickly from side to side. There was a bang, however, and the small brown bird took off in fright.

Soaring the heavens

and scratching upon the azure-

-with its mighty talons.

School had ended, and the class quickly packed their bags and left in a hurry, all wanting to join up with their friends in other classes and just have a good time after the torture that was school. The girl, however, exited the class alone, her bag slung around her right shoulder by one strap, the other still left dangling. She gave out a yawn as she headed towards the staircase and the back gate of the school, eager to escape this hellhole and pass the rest of her day quietly back home.

It was just another usual day; nobody was paying any attention to her like always-she felt a bit like a passing breeze, or maybe the flickering shadow of a sparrow under the bright afternoon sun. She just came and went without anyone noticing her unless it was necessary… not that she really minded, anyway; she had gotten long used to it. It had always been like that since who-knows-when anyway-she had long-gone used to the cold shoulder treatment she was getting already. Sighing softly, the girl started to make her way towards the gate and out of the school, ready to leave and go back-

“Hey!”

The girl turned, both surprised and taken aback at the sight of some of her classmates behind her. They waved towards her, smiling slightly as they gave her a warm farewell. “See you tomorrow.”

She stood in stunned silence, looking at them blankly for a moment before a small smile came to her as well and she waved back. “Uh, yeah. See you.” Saying that, she turned back and made her way to the back gate and exited the school.

Yes, I am the Hawk…

That which flies-

The girl walked out into the outside, a soft breeze blowing by and slightly ruffling up her hair as the leaves in the nearby trees in the area rustled ever so quietly. The afternoon sun shone down warmly on her, lightening the skies dotted with puffy magnolia-white clouds into an almost silvery color. She looked up into a sky, a true smile upon her face as the chirp of a passing sparrow rang merrily into the air.

-yes, flying freely…

…on that endless silver sky.
