It just frustrates me when they make a song - a fun, enjoyable song. Something catchy and a little gritty. AND THEN THE LAST MINUTE IS THEM SCREAMING LIKE THEY SLAMMED A FINGER IN A DOOR.

Thanks for making your song, which could have been a pretty alright song... and completely ruining it, asshole.

I agree with this, also.
Like, no one wants to hear that. Or I guess some people do.
...But they're douchebags.

Sex Pistols; they are actually one of the examples I had directly in mind. The Sex Pistols, and The Crucifucks.

heh I'm not going to lie... I like the Sex Pistols, but I would by no means claim that they are a great band with loads of musical talent and should be praised for their influence on music today.

They are a bunch of anti-everything dick heads hopped up on way to much drugs and alcohol. But I like what they yell and slam around about.

I get liking their music (sort of; I mean, I don't, but I'm sure there are people who like the sound of it) just...like...it's such an overwhelmingly selfish, spoiled point of view. Like "I don't like that there are people who have more money than me, but I don't want to get a job, so I should be able to just destroy everything and take their money."
What the fuck? No.

I don't know..exactly how to say all of what I'm feeling. But the whole attitude the "punk scene" seems to be built on really gets under my skin.

Or even...like...I agree. But I also feel like a "true" rebel should have a real cause, something legitimately worth expending energy changing, or yelling about.

I am not actually sure. Like...I can link you to the lyrics and stuff that I'm basing this post off of, and summarize what we talked about in class, but I don't like the music or the attitude based on what I've seen, so I've not done really intense research into it.

We were listening to The Sex Pistols and The Crucifucks in my Music in the Rock Era class.

Oh, lol. Well, neither of those are actual political punk bands. It's all for show and for laughs. Most of the Sex Pistols could barely even play their instruments. Although, a few members ended up forming Public Image, LTD which was a lot better.

But, I mean, yeah. They weren't meant to be taken seriously. They didn't really want anarchy in the UK. I doubt, with all the drugs they were doing nonstop, they could even spell anarchy. Or UK.

If you want to try something more legitimate or sincere, members of Leftover Crack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5KC6AD1Kl8) spent huge portions of their career in and out of jail (mostly for minor things), being unable to get visas, etc, the singer for Bad Religion has a Ph.D. in evolutionary biology, and co-wrote a book about theism and naturalism, and the singer for Joy Division hung himself over his depression.

One addendum, now that I've more than skimmed the previous comments. There is also a bit of a confirmation bias. Like, the kind of punk bands that get radio play and sell CDs are the kind of punk bands that... sell out in order to get radio play and cell CDs. While the punk bands that do community organizing, write treatises on politics, and generally walk the walk are the kind of bands that, while making up the vast majority of the scene, realize a few self-released demos and maybe a split with a more well-known band that only people that love punk will ever listen to.

Or something.

I really wish I were 14 again so I could do a better job trying to explain what I mean.

(And, regardless, the best punk rock is the kind of punk about copious drinking, drugging, and sexing with the consequences are disregarded.)

...i like punk music...not like neo-nazi punk though. that's fucked up. Which actually, there's a lot of neo-nazi punks in Denver. Scary, right? There's different variations of what punk is, so i guess I don't want people to lump that category together like that? because no ALL of them are like that.

And there's always that big debate of what "punk" really is. A lot of people wil argue that the sex pistols were horrible examples of what punk is. I think sex pistols is the image that everyone see, which sucks because they are by no means the best of what is out there. You seriously have to dig to find the good shit, but its totally worth it
