Underwater
if I love you hard enough,

They are sitting on the living room floor. Something is playing on television but Changmin is not paying attention. Next to him, Junsu is staring intently at the screen, fingers absently skidding against the side of a glass of water. Changmin tries to remember why they are the only two people left in the apartment but cannot recall what Yunho had said into his ear when he was half awake in the morning. Something that had to do with an interview, and Yoochun being at a radio recording- it didn’t matter.

Junsu drums his fingers against the side of the tall glass of water, rotates the glass, and tilts it, catching the sunlight. Sunlight is slashed mercilessly into blinding ribbons, falling around them, delicate, fragile and curling around Junsu. Changmin loops a finger around Junsu’s ankle, and Junsu turns slightly to stare at him. He parts his lips, as though meaning to speak. His tongue peeks out to wet his lips. Oh, thinks Changmin incoherently, and leans forward recklessly.

Kisses Junsu on the mouth, thinks of a flower blooming, unfurling like a heart coming out of its shell, all sorts of beauty and quiet magnificence.

Junsu gasps, knocks over the glass of water, and almost loses his balance. He brings a hand, wet from spilt water to Changmin’s shoulder, gripping as though he is about to drown, and then breaks the kiss, falling backwards onto the ground.

Changmin rocks backwards on his heels, giving Junsu space to sit up and scramble away from him, eyes darting around nervously. Changmin looks at the pool of water on the table. “I’ll go get something to clean that up,” he says, keeping his voice even.

He walks into the kitchen, and latches onto the edges of the sink for support, bending over so he rests his forehead against the tap, squeezing his eyes shut against the flickering images of the previous kiss playing on a loop inside his head. There’s the sound of someone setting a glass down, and Changmin straightens, looks up and sees Junsu there, fingers curled around the empty glass.

Changmin has no idea what to do with his hands, and decides to leave them on the sink, increasing his grip until his knuckles ache. Junsu reaches forward, holds onto his elbow, and then brushes the hand up his arm, across Changmin’s shoulder to the nape of his neck.

The kiss that happens is awkward (but all sorts of perfect), with Changmin holding onto his anchor for his dear life, Junsu firmly holding Changmin’s head in place and tilting his own head upwards- towards the taller boy- like a sunflower turning its face to meet its light. Junsu’s other hand finds Changmin’s wrists, coaxes them away from the sink and manoeuvres them, backing himself against the counter. Changmin pulls away and blinks as Junsu eases himself atop the counter and smiles down at him. Junsu takes Changmin’s hands, places them on his knees, securing them there, and tilts Changmin’s chin upwards, like lifting the lid of a piano, kisses him and surrenders.

The blistering sunlight crawls through the window, settling into every crevice and corner of the kitchen.

Junsu’s mouth is wet and open against his jaw, and Changmin can feel eyelashes against his flushed skin, like dandelions and barely formed dreams.

Changmin inhales the distinct scent of Junsu that clings onto the pillow, and imagines peeling off the inky night sky outside the window and draping it around them like a blanket, wrapping them tightly together. Next to him, Junsu’s body is warm.

Changmin thinks that if he loves Junsu to the very best of his ability, maybe he will be able to keep Junsu forever.

“I wish I could love you so much better than this,” Changmin whispers, snaking a tongue into the shell of Junsu’s ear for half a second, kisses Junsu’s neck. “I wish I could love you the way you deserve.”

Changmin wonders if Junsu will still be around in the morning when he wakes up. He knows that if he is the only one who remembers this (or chooses to remember it), who is to say it really happened at all? He touches Junsu’s collarbone, and Junsu shifts slightly in his sleep, exhaling noisily. He bites down on the hollow between Junsu’s shoulder and neck, but not too hard to wake the sleeping boy, and but hard enough to leave a faint set of markings that will last till morning (so you cannot forget me, even if you tried).

If I love you hard enough, maybe then you and I will exist, not as separate entities, but as two halves of a whole.

end.

Of course, comments would be lovely.
