T for Trace
Tracing every step we took along the way,
tracing a finger down the bridge of your spine,
tracing the outline of your heart,

TRICK Inside your heart, I’m dreaming

Changmin realises vaguely that there seems to be an intruder in his room. Changmin is in the foggy area between dreaming and reality when someone leans over him to brush his hair from his forehead, before crawling into bed with him.

In the morning, Changmin wakes up to see Jaejoong curled up in his bed, head rested against Changmin’s shoulders, hands caught between their two bodies, cradling the space where his heart is. He is breathtakingly beautiful, especially with the morning light falling over him like a pool of warmth.

“Did you have a nightmare?” Changmin props his head up with a hand and uses his free hand to prod at Jaejoong until he stirs.

Jaejoong’s eyes flutter open like the coming of spring (just equally beautiful), and he reaches a hand to brush the side of Changmin’s jaw fleetingly. “I dreamt that the door to your heart was starting to close.”

NO? Let’s kiss and make up

Jaejoong doesn’t like the new assistant stylist with the shiny long black hair who smiles flirtatiously at Changmin from all the way across the room, and brushes past him every chance she gets.

Junsu doesn’t seem to like her either (“are you sure you’re supposed to be here?” the spite hidden under a polite smile), and Yoochun ignores her presence entirely. Jaejoong supposes it is because they are all too protective of the youngest.

The shiny long black hair girl manages to bargain her way into doing Changmin’s make-up for him, which makes Jaejoong feel like tying her ridiculously long hair around her neck and strangling her with it. He is an awful person.

Changmin is smart enough to not return any of her smiles, just sits absolutely still while his make-up is done.

Maybe it is revenge, but Jaejoong pulls Changmin into a corner right after he’s done, and smears the make-up the girl had painstakingly painted on with a heated kiss and an easy brush of his thumb across Changmin’s eyes. His make-up gets redone by the regular stylist that Jaejoong approves of.

PURPLE LINE Let’s paint time like a movie

None of them can remember what exactly it was like at the beginning. It's as though there never was a time when they did not trust each other, need each other, love each other like this.

It's as though there never was a time when they could not share secrets, steal kisses or trade hearts.

Changmin thinks: the five of us over anything. The four of them over anyone else, the five of us together forever over anything else in the whole wide world, we are the only thing that matters.

FOREVER LOVE Time and time again, I’ll sing for you, my precious one

It is a disaster if anyone of them falls sick.

When Jaejoong’s throat is raw and swollen to the point where he can hardly speak, the rest of them develop massive migraines thinking about which one of them will sing Jaejoong’s part now that the only thing Jaejoong can do with his voice is croak pitifully, and whisper hoarse apologies.

Most of it gets pushed to Junsu, who realises that in that case, he will be singing half the song all by himself and thus protests vehemently.

In the end, they manage to split it all up among themselves, but TVXQ without Jaejoong is like a hot fudge sundae without the hot fudge.

And so, before Jaejoong is even halfway through recovery, he is on stage and singing again, and every time after each performance is over, he will never be able to speak again until the next day.

Changmin pretends that this doesn’t break his heart.

SUMMER DREAM Kiss me while your wet skin is still hot

Jaejoong presses one palm to the arch of Changmin’s back, pushing him down on the bed, and making coaxing noises. He moves his body over Changmin’s with all the fluidity of water, and he rests his mouth next to Changmin’s right ear.

He breathes and feels Changmin shiver beneath him.

“Be gentle,” Changmin mumbles into the bed.

Jaejoong bites down on Changmin’s ear and laughs as Changmin throws the older boy off him, grabbing his ear that was rapidly turning red. There is a lot of swearing on Changmin’s part, and a lot of laughing on Jaejoong’s part.

Of course, later, Jaejoong gets punished and is left with his bottom lip bleeding slightly from a bruising kiss.

RIDE ON Hey you drive me crazy tonight

“Your ponytail has magical powers,” Jaejoong claims, and makes Changmin smile.

“It drives me mad,” Jaejoong confesses, and Changmin, without any warning whatsoever, drops to his knees and Jaejoong’s head slams backwards into the wall, eyes wide as his zipper is lowered. He watches the shadows dance across the ceiling.

Jaejoong’s fingers tangle painfully in Changmin’s hair, tugging the strands out of the ponytail, and when his vision goes black, his ability to speak leaves him as well, and the only thing he can say is Changmin’s name.

He can never understand why some people don’t love Changmin, when Jaejoong thinks he is worth all of his heart. He unclenches his hands and removes them from Changmin’s hair, and sees the strands that are left threaded between his fingers like promises.

DARKNESS EYES I seek in the dark the withered emotions deep in my heart

“I am not lonely,” Changmin says and Jaejoong tries not to let the tears well up in his eyes. In the background, their older songs are playing (Junsu is playing them from the living room).

When Hug is almost ending, Jaejoong is the first to cry, even when it is Changmin whose eyes have lost their shine.

In the middle of Whatever They Say, they taste the salt of each other’s tears in the blurry kisses they share, and Changmin finally stops lying about not being lonely.

“We are all lonely,” Jaejoong tells him when the beginning strains of The Way U Are filters in through the crack of the door. “But I have you, I have the four of you, and I am happy.”

Changmin smiles through tears, and tells Jaejoong, “I have never been unhappy (since you entered my life).”

LOVIN’ YOU More than anything, I want to see your smile

Changmin peers through the lenses of his camera. Jaejoong is moving everywhere, and it’s hard to get a good photograph of him when he refuses to stay still for more than one second.

Changmin calls his name. Jaejoong pauses and turns around. He sees Changmin with the camera, and smiles.

Changmin captures the moment with a trigger-click, and when he lowers the camera, Jaejoong is in front of him, life-sized, and more beautiful than any photograph of him can ever be.

RAINBOW Because your words bring light

“Let’s jump,” Jaejoong turns to Changmin, as they stand on the roof, fifteen floors up. The world is beneath their feet- at least, most of it is.

Changmin laughs. “Go ahead. I’ll see you in the afterlife.”

Jaejoong spins on his heel, and grabs Changmin by the arms, pulling his close, and closing all the spaces between their bodies, and the mist of his breath ghosts across Changmin’s face.

They stand, parallel, a matching pair, and Jaejoong’s grip leaves little half-moons on Changmin’s arms- Jaejoong’s nails are always clean, always as beautiful as any other part of him. Changmin ducks his head so he can rest his face next to Jaejoong’s.

“You think we’re still going to Heaven?” After all this sin?

Jaejoong’s question makes Changmin blink. Jaejoong is destined to be an angel and nothing else. “Hell will never accept you,” Changmin whispers, and he realises that if there’s anyone to worry for, it’s himself.

“What’s Heaven without you?” Jaejoong pushes a palm against the side of Changmin’s throat, imprinting. What’s Heaven without you?

SHINE Even when we are apart, my heart will whisper your name

“You know if you let me, we could be-” (Forever, together, so much more) Jaejoong’s hands are insisting, urgent, and blistering under the material of Changmin’s shirt.

Changmin arches, aches and gasps. “Don’t.” Please don’t.

“Don’t stop,” Jaejoong corrects.

“No,” Changmin whimpers in his throat, hands scrabbling against Jaejoong’s chest- pushing and pulling at the same time.

“Do you want me?” Jaejoong demands to know. “Do you love me?”

Changmin, too young and too afraid, blinks up at him with eyes that are too full of tears and tries to find the right words to tell Jaejoong, I want you now and I’ll always love you. It takes several tries, but in the end, it comes out like this, “You’ve been the only one.”

LAST ANGEL Eternally, I’ll save you baby

Changmin thinks of beginnings:

( Jaejoong stops him in the hallway, eyes bright with possibilities and a quizzical smile on his face. Changmin doesn’t know why, but Jaejoong loops his fingers around Changmin’s elbow, and says, “You do actually already know that I love you, right?” and changes the world. )

He thinks of endings:

( Jaejoong’s hands are hot heat on his back as he blows out the candles. He’s coming of age. He’s older now and Jaejoong, still two years older, always two years older, smiles at him, proud. “Our baby is all grown up,” he tells the other three, reshaping their relationship. Endings are just excuses for more beginnings. )

It is winter and it is bone-biting cold. Changmin thinks it is ridiculous to be on the roof on a day like this, but Jaejoong is ridiculous. Changmin grumbles as he climbs the steps to the roof to tell Jaejoong that for heaven’s sake you’re going to get sick. The words die on his lips when he sees Jaejoong standing in the middle of the roof, face turned up towards the sky, arms outstretched on either side of him, trying to catch snowflakes with his tongue, and thinks that this might possibly be the most beautiful thing he will ever see. He stays quiet and very still until Jaejoong turns and sees him there, awe-struck and silent.

CLAP! Shake your body baby tonight, gonna be alright, make you feel so right

Dancing with Jaejoong is all sorts of bizarre, for some strange reason, Changmin thinks, but that doesn’t stop him from sliding his hands to slender swaying hips, and that doesn’t stop him from asking Jaejoong for one more dance, just one last one.

LOVE IN THE ICE On the other side of those tears

Changmin knows that Jaejoong may not be able to promise him forever, but he is more than what Changmin deserves. Even if it meant that he would never fly, he’d give Jaejoong his wings, because even then, he’ll be content just to stand on ground, face turned up to the sky, watching Jaejoong soar.

Work is tough and they run on four hours of sleep per day, irregular mealtimes, messy kisses behind shut doors and bargaining for more time to spend together.

Changmin finds that he is quite content.

The lights that were focused on him on stage dim as he finishes singing his line and Jaejoong’s beautiful voice follows suit as the lights swing to illuminate him, ethereal, ghostly, moon-lit-pale.

The five of them stand in a line, the only way they are complete.

Next to him, Jaejoong is impossibly beautiful.

T for thunder ; T for tangled ; T for thank you ; T for thawed hearts ; T for touching forever ; T for time together ; T for (carefully, delicately) tracing the contours of your heart that matches the shape of mine.

As usual, feedback would be appreciated.
