Answers to some of the plotholes:

* The camera works in the beginning because the battery wasn't in during the EMP thing.

* The giant machines were buried miles and miles beneath the surface, which is why we didn't find them. Alternate answer - they were invisible.

* The aliens used lights and foghorns largely for our benefit; ie, it makes them more scary to us, which makes the whole thing more fun for them. They're evil, after all.

* Related to previous answer: The aliens waited until now to attack because it would have been boring before. Who wants to crush a planet populated only by beasts? Wait until we evolve and build a civiliation with big cities. Then it's fun!

* The aliens don't have microbes on their planet, so they were too stupid to look for them on ours. Alternate answer - a new microbe evolved in the time since they buried their cool machines here that was fatal to them.

That's about all I can think of. I also had the same thought about the Flight of the Navigator thing, it was too funny..

My thought on the foghorn is that it really isn't a foghorn. The aliens were ripping giant farts to make room for more human puree!

Plus, being 2005, and HIV being so prominant today as opposed to 1 million years ago. Hmmm, so that means every human still alive that were most likely sprayed with the blood of the tripods now has AIDS.

"Everyone has AIDS!"

hmm, Mad Max 4 comes out next year, coincident, I think not.

Also, wow, I knew some things were wrong in the film, but come on Speilberg, this is to many. Orson is roling over in his grave right now.

I think it was wrong for them to let Robby live, HE should of just died. And Tim should of died, to make a happy family again.

i thought it was wild how the family at the end just kind of came out of their perfect little boston home, like nothing happened at all...

"more crevasce helen...oh dear gohhddd...what is that giant thing in our front garden?!? is that hector's new lawn mower?!?"
