It sort of hit me today that as soon as next week we could live in a country with an entirely different world view than what we currently have. What if we were open minded enough to elect a man with a mixed race heritage? I feel like this could be a HUGE cultural shift, and I am thrilled. I agree with your thoughts about this financial mess - in long ago times we would literaly sweat qualifying for a mortgage...maybe those days will come back with a bit more personal responsibility!
As to wedding gifts - I appreciate you being considerate of people's needs to buy you all stuff - registries keep you from having to deal with paintings on velvet and lava lamps. Don't be surprised if a lot of your registry appears under your Christmas tree!
