summary: stupid Mello doesn't say it.
notes: I know, it's tiny ;_; sorry

It's a while before either of them realize that they love each other.

For Mello, it's on a windy morning; he's shuffling out of their bedroom, they already share one, and he hears the gusts outside knocking tree branches against one of the windows. There's hollow whistling and the sounds of ghosts and the early light is grey, as if it might rain. Badou's standing at the stove. He's got his apron on, and there's sizzling and the smell of pancake batter, and Mello says, "Hey."

"Hey, 'bout time you got up," Badou says, and he turns; Mello can see a package of chocolate chips on the counter, for the pancakes. They have this ritual going, now - whenever Badou makes chocolate chip pancakes, Mello will come out, stand there with his hands on his hips and his mouth open, and Badou will toss a chip or two at him from across the kitchen. They've been doing that for a few weeks, now. So, when Badou says, "Here, man," and underhands a bit of chocolate, Mello should expect it.

He's busy watching, though, he's busy staring. Badou gets up every morning and he stands there with his apron and his hair tied back and he makes breakfast. Sometimes it's pancakes, sometimes it's plain oatmeal. But it's breakfast.

The chocolate hits Mello's nose and he ignores it, moving forward to kiss Badou instead. The first pancake burns because Mello doesn't let go.
