Stolen from queenofthorns , just for the halibut.

Bold the ones you've read COMPLETELY, italicize the ones you've read part of. Watching the movie or the cartoon doesn't count. Abridged versions don't count either. BTW, according to the BBC if you've read 7 of these, you are above the average.

Popping in just to say: you absolutely should read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon sooner rather than later. Narrated by a highly functioning (and math savant) teenage boy with Asperger's Disease who sets out to solve the murder of his neighbor's dog, it's smart, funny, incredibly endearing without being sentimental and completely original. One of the best books I've read in the past decade.

Cool. Thanks for the rec. I don't think I've ever heard of it. I'll definitely check it out.

I'm kinda shocked that you only need to have read 7 of those to be beyond the average person. At least 3 or 4 of those (not counting the Harry Potter series or His Dark Materials) are required reading for any conscious elementary school child, aren't they?

Isn't it strange? I agree, people would at least have to read some of these things in school one would think.

So, according to the BBC you're well above average, then? Hee.

I have picked up and attempted to read War and Peace several times and each time I fail.

Birdsong, by Faulks, is an epic read. I highly recommend it.

I can now die happy.:)

I really like a lot of Russian authors in general for some unknown reason, but War and Peace is difficult to get through without some ability for consistent reading - there are too many characters to keep straight.

I will check that book out, thanks.:)
