My evaluation of the suspended LJ communities

Jun 05, 2007 15:49

I know that nodescriptor is planning to post his assessment of the still-suspended LJs. I'm nipping in ahead of him only because I haven't tried to evaluate the nature of the personal LJs. Personal LJs, by their very nature, vary in subject matter and have no "community rules." So I don't think that anyone can evaluate those LJs except LiveJournal, the LJ owners, and people who read those LJs regularly. (I am definitely not going to evaluate the nature of an LJ based solely on what age group the owner is attracted to.)

However, one can give at least a preliminary assessment of the nature of LJ communities (comms). We can't know whether anyone broke the community rules, thus causing a legitimate suspension, but in some cases we can get a sense of what the goals and rules of the comm were.

The information here comes primarily from nodescriptor's list of cached pages.

LJs that are starred below had rules that were aimed to keep illegal material off the comm. That doesn't mean, of course, that the other comms necessarily permitted illegal material; it just means the starred comms expressed special interest in keeping illegal material away.

First, I've divided the comms according to subject matter. Then I've given my evaluation of them.

GENERAL COMMS

Fiction, nonfiction, art, and photos

amateurselfporn.

Fiction, art, and photomanipulations

* violentboylove. (Fandom-based. I visited it on several occasions, and it was exactly what its profile claimed. Although it allowed "faked photos with permission of all parties involved," it had a rule against other photos.)

Miscellaneous

* rape_porn. (The classification is based on my personal recollections. I don't remember exactly what types of erotic materials it permitted, other than that it allowed fiction. However, my pre-Strikethrough notes tell me that it had some sort of rule against the posting of underage material.)

riddle_torture. (Reported by a fan fiction site to have been a Harry Potter fandom community. Is the maintainer still at this comm? I believe she posted here earlier.)

COMMS THAT SPECIALIZED IN THE TOPIC OF INCEST OR ADULT-MINOR ATTRACTION

Discussion

* childlove.

adult_teen_love. (The maintainer said in this post that the comm was devoted to "political & sociological discussion of issues related to adult-teen love," but no information is available on the comm rules.)

Discussion and fiction

basementsociety. (Specialized in PG-rated material. All of the non-Friends-locked posts ended up being discussion posts.)

Intergenerational discussions (for the purpose of having minors and adults talk to each other about sexual topics)

teensexsecrets.

my_sex_slaves. (Actually more of a personal LJ than a comm. Although not specializing in the topic of adult-minor attraction - it's basically a BDSM personal ad - it includes hints that the owner was open to hooking up sexually with minors.)

Art and photos

lolita_icontest. (Devoted to icons related to the novel Lolita. All the indications I have is that this was a fan community set up by a couple of teens, but its subject matter - photos about a fictional adult-minor erotic pairing - could potentially attract illegal material.)

Miscellaneous

incestuouslove. (Reported by a couple of members to have been a fiction community.)

ljincest. (Reported by a couple of members to have been a fiction community.)

boylove_ru. (Keywords listed here suggest that it was devoted to the topic of adult-minor attraction, but there's no information on what type of materials it encouraged.)

UNCERTAIN

familyfistfuck.
i_h8_y8.
rape_interests2.
sexoffendersrus.
smellthesludge.
verhabte_liebe.
beast_love.
girlie_porn.
____loli_lovin.
kindersluts.
masters_paws.
mount__me.
___showsomeskin.

MY CONCLUSIONS

The following comms might have problematic material on them that hasn't been cached by Google, but there's no indication in the cached pages or other information that there was any intent by the owners to focus the comms on the topic of real-life adult-minor sex or to attract illegal material:

amateurselfporn.
violentboylove.
rape_porn.
riddle_torture.

The following comms did focus on the topic of real-life adult-minor attraction (not necessarily adult-minor sex), but they appear to have been set up in such a way as to avoid attracting illegal material:

childlove.
basementsociety.

The following comms appear to have been set up in such a way (whether intentionally or unintentionally) that they were likely to attract illegal material, such as erotic photos of minors or attempts to hook up adults and minors in a sexual way:

teensexsecrets.
my_sex_slaves.
lolita_icontest.

More information is needed on these comms:

incestuouslove.
ljincest.
boylove_ru.
familyfistfuck.
i_h8_y8.
rape_interests2.
sexoffendersrus.
smellthesludge.
verhabte_liebe.
beast_love.
girlie_porn.
____loli_lovin.
kindersluts.
masters_paws.
mount__me.
___showsomeskin.
