Have there been any C&Ds in relation to this lately? I hadn't heard of any.
I don't quite get it, honestly, since het porn should be equally objectionable with respect to HP characters. Of course, they may be using slash in the way I've seen a few people use it, to simply mean "sexual pairing." I didn't see how it was related to the rest of the article, though, which was just strange. It was like an afterthought out of nowhere. Bad editors, no cookies.
At least they're taking the copyright angle, rather than porn-is-bad, or "omg it's child porn" (though they do slip in the bizarre strawman claim "The authors steadfastly refuse to accept that their work is pornography, claiming instead it is an art form." - um yes, because obviously erotic material and art are completely mutually exclusive...)
If copyright holders really want to go after fanfiction, that's up to them, but it's rather blowing it out of proportion to call people using their IP as "such a huge global problem" or that it's some great "moral obligation". I'm in favour of copyright laws, but my heart doesn't exactly bleed for Rowling (she's worth what, a billion dollars or so?)
(It's pretty much like the RIAA and MPAA tactics - people may support copyright laws, but that doesn't mean they support their tactics, or accept the claim that downloading is causing rich artists to be starving on the streets. It's rather a shame to see a tabloid taking the side of big business.)
It is wierd they are focusing on slash instead of fanfiction in general. Like somehow it is worse if the charecters are gay? They niceley ignore the fact that there is lots of G rated slash out there too. Whatever.
I think this is totally stupid and uncalled for! So, we can write about het couples (hiss at epilogue) but slash is suddenly BAD! I'm actually surprised that they have waited this long to decide that we can't write slash! It's been around since the first book came out!
I agree with the above comment (tilian3) These people think that all slash fetures hardcore gay porn - erm, no it doesn't.
