I think I want to strangle my work colleague. He is THE most rude, irritating little man. I really, really want to scream - I am reduced to a terrible mood within seconds of his arrival

Augh, that sounds very annoying. However, how much work he does is not directly your concern - it's his line manager's role to make sure his work is up to scratch and notice when it isn't. How what he does is affecting your ability to work is your concern. I think I'd be tempted to focus on that. Do you have any solutions you want to suggest to your boss (like somewhere else you could sit away from him)?

Haha, I used to hum and whistle to myself in the office in Germany! Hope I didn't piss people off too much!

And maybe you should friends-only this, in case he sees and whistles so loud your ears pop? ;)
