In other telly: Bones

Dec 30, 2011 19:05

I've been watching Bones. I think I've seen all of S2, most of S6 and some of S3 and 7 (don't ask me how Living are showing this). Thanks to the excellent primer I had (thanks, Rynogeny!) I can generally understand what's going on. And I like it. Considering I tend to really dislike shows that seem incapable of writing romance without turning ( Read more... )

I like the pilot episode very much. Even if I hadn't already had Rynogeny's strong endorsement, I think that would have hooked me on the show.

Son and I just started watching through together from the beginning. It's fun seeing it all again now, knowing how things will develop later.

That's been quite interesting for me, too, knowing what's coming in some areas of character and plot, but still liking to watch the way it actually developed. I saw most of S6 (missed a few eps) before I saw S2 and S3, and now S7 is on (or at least we've had some episodes - not sure when it's coming back).

Just caught this - I missed it earlier. I'm so glad you're enjoying it.

The ep with them buried in the car is a universal favorite - it's almost always at the top of peoples' lists, and you're not the first person I've seen say it was what hooked them. (I think it's probably my second or third favorite ep.)

And yeah on the romance. The funny thing is that a certain subset of the fandom complains absolutely endlessly because they've not gone the usual way with the romance. (From what I can tell, this is mostly because they reinterpret Brennan's character to be someone she's not (i.e., them) and then get upset when she doesn't react as they would.) I'm very much enjoying the fact that they're exploring how two people who are very different forge a relationship while staying who they are.

I do hope you get to see S1 at some point. I really love some of those stories.

I suspect the self-as-Brennan fans are those who don't actually give a shit about Brennan, just happen to fancy Booth. It would have been great if Sam Carter could have been written this way - not losing her science geekiness or soldieriness in order to be 'a girl', but that would have taken writing skill, apparently. Also sad that it's such a surprise to see a woman being written as a cohesive individual - it's particularly rare these days.

I'm sure S1 will come around eventually. I'm often not impressed with early eps because the writing just isn't settled and frequently rests on way too many cliches, but if it's a show I end up liking then I can watch early stuff with forgiveness *g*

That anonymous comment was from me (Rynogeny, in case it does it again.) LJ has taken to signing me out about every 20 minutes or so, sometimes more often. This time, it was less than that. I signed in, read until I saw your post, clicked 'comment'...and was signed out and didn't see it.

Off to post at DW...
