What the…? What on Earth is going on? Oh, goodness gracious where am I?

[There's the sound of frantic pacing, and then a small, rather unmanly shriek as Nathaniel looks through the porthole.]

A ship? A ship? I don't remember getting on a ship! And I certainly wasn't drunk last night, so this can't be some sort of awful mistake… Oh Lord! Have I been ( Read more... )

Are you okay, sir?

What the deuce-?

[There's a loud thump in response. Nate, whirling around to see where the voice came from, ending up falling off the bed. A few seconds later, he finds the comm, and speaks into it rather hesitantly. It doesn't look like a telephone, but he can't think of any other way he could be hearing voices. Unless he's going mad.]

I-I believe so, sir, physically at least. Otherwise, I find myself rather bewildered... The last I remember, I was in my room at a London inn, and now I am apparently at sea!

Ah... it'll be fine!

[Not as though words of encouragement from strangers matter much, particularly vague ones, but she'll take a stab at it.]

Well, it's sort of like kidnapping...

I must say, miss, as kind as your words are, I don't quite see how any of this can be, as you say, 'fine'! Why, I have my studies to continue, my rent to pay... I simply cannot stay here! Surely these kidnappers must want something, but I must say I have nothing to give!

I'm pretty sure who and how they pick people might not have much to do with a financial reward.

On the plus side... well, rent's not a concern for now I guess. Actually, what I understand so far is nobody is sure why they're here or how they're here. But, there are more of us. So it'll be fine in that we're all together.

...I think, anyway.

I suppose, though I'd rather deal with rent than being kidnapped.

Oh, God in Heaven, I hope you are right in what you say, miss. I cannot help but comment that it worries me that the kidnappers have made no demands, however. Good grief, what if we are to be sold into the white slave trade? One hears such dreadful rumours nowadays... Oh, this cannot be happening!

Hate to say it, but it's totally not a dream. [Sorry, buddy. She wishes it was a dream, too.]

Blast it!

Ah - forgive me, miss, no situation calls for expletives in the presence of a lady. It's just I cannot see why anyone would want to take me somewhere against my will, for I am only an art student, and a penniless one at that.

Same here, I'm a broke mechanic, but...guess there's areason for it, right? [There'd better be.]

I dearly hope so. Still, I daresay we shall be rescued in due course. After all, we must all already be missed from our homes, so the police must already be searching for us!

[Think, Nathaniel, think! Find a less distressing topic before you work this young lady up into a complete nervous tizzy!]

A... mechanic, you say? How intriguing! I personally find it delightful that women are branching out a little more in this modern age, though of course not so much that they cannot care for house and children!

[He's honestly not trying to be sexist ass. Really.]

I feel all of us are in the same position as yourself; a place we did not willingly board, and cannot escape.

My apologies, for I know exactly how you must feel.

Thank you, miss, for your kind words. But... you say we cannot escape? What do these fiendish kidnappers demand in return for our release? Money, I assume, but how much?

As far as I know, e cannot. People have been known to disappear, however...[She hesitates. This is all from speculation.] They occasionally come back with no recollection of ever having been here in the first place.

Really? That sound terrible! I can't imagine what manner of people could be evil enough to do such a thing! Releasing us only to erase our memories through some unspeakable manner and bring us back again... I still hope that this is somehow a nightmare.

It's a ship alright; a cruise ship, with lot's of free shit and strange happenings.

We do appear to be stuck here whether we like it or not, though. Welcome aboard the elegante~

[A lady? Cursing? The gentleman in Nathaniel shudders, but he can't afford to turn down any help...]

Thank you, miss, though I fear that 'welcome' may not be the right word. One hears such terrible tales of what kidnap victims suffer, and from what you say I cannot help but feel this will be no exception. True, this is a lovely enough room, but I hardly fancy being trapped here for... for however long we are to be kept.

Eh, it's not bad here, really. I've been here over a month myself, and some have been here over a year. It's nice enough, when weird crap isn't going on.

[She cringes at being called 'miss', ugh. She has a gentleman here, apparently...]

My name's Sarea, Rea for short. How about you, new guy?

A year? Truly? But I have not heard news of any kidnappings, and surely if people keep being taken... ah, but if we are on a ship, then are people taken from many different countries? So then many people must be searching for us!

Ah, forgive me for not introducing myself, Miss Sarea. Nathaniel Ireton, utterly at your service.

[Nathaniel is somewhat surprised by how smoothly that came out. Clearly not being overwhelmed by looking at a woman makes it easier to talk to the fairer sex.]
