I probably shouldn't be doing this because of financial reasons, but I'm having a second bokken made. I ran across an awesome artist who's not afraid to work with Vera wood. What I did was rip the design straight out of a sword book for old swordsmith Yasutsuna's Doujigiri, a bad-ass tachi that was probably one of his best works. It's the same ( Read more... )

How hard is that proficiency test? It sounds even tougher than the sword-upkeep. I'm still trudging along with Rosetta Stone, ya know...

Well, UNC Charlotte doesn't actually have an a bona-fide proficiency test for Japanese, because, well, most of their students come knowing 0 of the language. So I actually have to sit down with the head professor and have him physically test me to see where my level is. I have no idea what I'll need to know because it's not a normal paper exam like all of their other languages have.

Basically, I'm just studying everything... Guess it will be fun though.
