she's too dumb to write in her journal, so i'm telling everyone she has a hypo-thyroid type thingy, and that's why she's been so gimply lately, but she should be okay.

also, i'm saying that she's dumb and needs to write more.

Well, I AM Ruty.

So it's a thyroid problem, is it? What's the solution? Hopefully they can do something without surgery because I figure Amanda's pretty much had enough of that to last a lifetime.

they said it'll either go away on its own sometime in the next couple months or they can start her on pills.

Pills, you say? Well, I tried to call Amanda at the trailer last night and got a busy signal. I assumed she was probably downloading something on-line, and so I decided that it would be silly to try again that evening. I will, however, try today.

Pills can have nasty side effects, especially when you are already taking other pills. However, I find the "it just might go away on its own" solution to be sounding very stupid.

well, it happened suddenly and without any warning, so there's a good chance her thyroid is in shock, which means it fixing itself is a good possibility. the other possibility (which is, i suppose, just as likely as it being in shock) is that it's failing, which would mean she'll have to take pills for the rest of her life. either way, without a cure, there's nothing anyone can really do about it besides watch and maybe treat nearby systems to remove some of the stress while it tries to fix itself.

Glad to see you back in LJ land! Hypo-thyroid? I have that too...all it requires for me, at least, is a pill every day so it's not so bad. How's school going? It's weird not being back in Pullman this time of year. E-mail me with the happenings of WSU in the new semester when you're not too busy! :)
