i'm working for the la community college district. more specifically - for the personnel commission. the PC basically creates district policies and rules for classified employees (mainly clerical workers) based off of california education code. my job, is to basically help translate the rules to district employees or assist them with any questions they might have. this can be anything from "when will i get a raise" to "i feel as though i'm doing more duties and responsibilities on the job than i'm being compensated for" etc... Along being pretty much a human resource , i also am in charge of welcoming all new employees to the district and letting them know i'm available to help them with any of their questions or concerns. it sounds kind of cool...but mainly all i do is sit around at my desk because not very many people take advantage of my expert knowledge about district policies. when i'm not doing the very limited amount of work i need to do, i get stuck doing "special projects" from my supervisor(s). these "special projects" are ( ... )

Life is good. I'm still in Los Angeles through the 24th of September, then I head out to merry old England. Your job sounds a bit depressing, but realistic. I guess if I do anything in the public sector - and I've thought a bit about getting into city planning, but I figure starting out I'll have to wade through a lot of crap before I can get to a decent position. Which sounds a lot easier than actually wading through that crap, I'm sure. I hope you don't get too frustrated, since it sounds like there are people in the staff using you as some kind of disposable human typewriter ( ... )

maybe we can hang out sometime this weekend or early next week. my last day of work is friday and then i'm a pretty open book. we'll catch up etc.. I'll call you later this week to make more definite plans. are your numbers the same?
