I was still pretty shocked. Getting killed by a stingray is really uncommon, especially for somebody who knew so much about dangerous animals. Granted the guy made a career out of being a daredevil, but it's still pretty bizarre since he always had crews around in case something went wrong so it was never quite as dangerous as the cameras made it out to be. If he'd been mauled by a crocodile or something it would have made more sense, but probably not fatal.
This is sort of like how if Evel Kneivel had died in a motorcycle crash no one would have been surprised, but if his motorcycle had randomly exploded upon ignition people would have freaked out.
I just meant that its not terribly surprising that he got killed while messing with a wild animal. The barb under the rib cage and into the heart is pretty freakish though.
I'm pretty sure he'd stated in interviews that he expected to die from venom so the random stab to the heart is pretty weird. I guess he went out doing what he loved, though.
