Reminiscing

With some free time as you have when you are stuck at home sick, I fired up DOSBox and got a little game that I worked on in High School running again. The game engine was largely complete (with a few minor cosmetic issues) although I only ended up building about 3 semi-functioning levels ( Read more... )

Probably more scary than anything else! ;-D I was tempted to screencap one of my old 4 color CGA drawing programs I wrote for the PC/XT, but that would look positively pre-historic...

Ya DOSbox pretty much rocks. And its just slow enough on its emulation that it's perfect. :-D And shocking to me that I'm on a PPC Mac and still able to run it!! (and shockingly WinNT, WinXP never liked some of the hardware hooks I was doing and would kill it)

Yey!

That's awesome! Thanks for sharing the screen shots. I had a friend write a neat text-mode graphics simulation of rats running around and cats dropping cages to try to trap them. He wrote it on a Commodore 64 originally, in assembly language, then later ported it to Turbo Pascal for PCs, then later to C++ using Curses under UNIX.

Oh I loved Turbo Pascal! I think it was still my favorite environment - even though Pascal was kinda lame in many ways. Still it was the next logical leap from BASIC and a much needed one!

Mmmmm sounds cute too!

Its overrated sometimes - and I did this stuff before college so it all depends on how big of a dork you are and how much free time you have! ;-D That's it.

I really like the player sprite. The dalek is stylin' too.

Did you lift any tiles from other sources?

I think I lifted (mostly) the blue tile sprite - but that's it to the best of my memory. My brother helped out on Tom's graphic - and most of the isometric tiles I did.
