I'm not going to start judging people based on how often they want to have sex or with who. It does help me know that we're incompatible in relationship goals though.

ManHunt is pretty much the same as Adam4Adam. They both have options for 'relationships', but their primary market is hookups. I didn't realize that was the intent of Adam4Adam when I join so once it became apparent I just stopped going. I have nothing against the sites.

Ya the site design is pretty clear. I always wonder if the site designers intend for that outcome (obviously the case for manhunt) or if it just happens.

Slutitude is not an enforced requirement for a manhunt account. =) I mean, I am pretty sexually active, open to a variety of potential partners, and I'm on manhunt. But there is a sizable minority on the site seeking a relationship and pre-emptively declaring their lack of interest in one night stands and/or anonymous contacts. I even know one guy on there who I'd consider a friend who has an open relationship with his long distance boyfriend. He doesn't really want sex from manhunt, he just views it as a place gays hang out.

I don't think you should go on manhunt. It sounds like you don't like the sexually charged atmosphere (which it has in spades). But there are some quality people on there, for just about any definition of quality.

gotta disagree here, the entire business model of manhunt is to extract dollars from a very specific community - the gay community. By turning around and taking those dollars and spending them in support of a political cause that has in part thrived based on its anti-gay agenda they biting the proverbial hands that feed them.

The parallel would be if a rap artist started donating money to the David Duke election campaign.

The whole Manhunt thing bothers me ... as much as it can, anyway, living as far as I do from most Manhunt clients. We need to speak with our dollars when we can ... gawd knows the right-wingers do the same thing in reverse all the time.

Oh, and -- happy (slightly-belated) birthday! :)

"You must create, in other words, a pornographic version of yourself, a thing that represents you but is not you."

Hmm...nomenclature. I hadn't thought of that before. Interesting perspective. Again, it's not to judge anyone on Manhunt or what have you, but I'm of a similar mindset of the author (of the article.) Online hook-ups have the surprising effect of making me feel even more distanced and disconnected with the person I just had sex with, and that's so not what I actually want.

Ya that's what I really liked about the article. Its intuitively obvious enough but the exactly phasing of that was enlightening nonetheless.

Online hookups can very much do that - although they don't have to depending on the chemistry and how much you know the person beforehand if you will. But yes, usually they can be fairly ... ummm ok that was fun but I don't really feel that I achieved anything.
