First, it is so sad about the Georgian athlete. So absolutely tragic. I am glad they had a minute of silence for him ( Read more... )

I laughed when the cauldron didn't work, that is so Canadian, the rest pretty and the singing was nice but I found it rather pretentious which so unCanadian. I do feel bad for the Georgian Guy, some people are saying the games are cursed, I don't believe in curses but it would be cool. At this time in Canadian history we shifting to right, so the entire we love the world thing is not exactly true when we fear terrorist on our own soil, and new comers not willing to learn or languages and culture. I fear a greater swing to the right in this country, we are becoming a xenophobic as the Americans in some things. The Just Society of the idealist of the 60's as been challenged and we are lacking. I will always bang the socialist drum but so few people are listening, mother Earth help us all.

Were there dancing polar bears and penguins in the ceremony? I love that Canada has those everywhere! :P

I agree. I wasn't suggesting they shouldn't have gotten time to do their thing. I loved that part. I just think that once the athletes started walking in they should have had other Canadian's up there welcoming them to the games as well. It isn't JUST their land the games are being played on. Know what I mean jellybean? lol

I'm so happy that both Hansen and a Fox family member were included! That was important to me.

I did watch the ceremony last night, but it was on low in the background while we had people over. This is why I'm shocked that our national anthem was 'personalized'?! I'm ticked that I missed that.

That poem is awesome. Thanks for sharing!!! Anything to replace that Joe Canada spiel is aces in my book! ;)

You probably wouldn't want to have heard that anthem. It was hardly recognizable except for the words. I wonder whose idea it was to change it up like that.

I like the poem too :)
