WHAT THEY LOST: Petros is going to lose his weapon, the Screamer. The "Screamer" isn't just a weapon for Petros. It's a symbol of his status within the Vatican; while some take status as their rank, Petros takes his status as a knight of God. It's his favorite weapon in battle and it is always by his side.
ABOUT THE CHARACTER:
On the whole, we don't know much about Petros. We know that he's the fearsome Knight of Destruction: when he got the title or how he go the title, we don't know. What is known is shown through his personality.
To best describe way to describe Petros is to treat him like he has layers. The more you learn about Petros, the more he reveals himself to be deeper than a man that only fights for his God and the Vatican. An omake states that he has his doctorate degree and a love for animals, yet he's such a harsh man in battle.
On the whole, he's a Vatican loyalist. He blushes when the Pope even looks at him and he has a little fanspazz whenever he's around him. He's part of the militant arm of the church, but he isn't as extremist as he makes himself to be.
➜ member of the inquisition
When Petros is first seen, he's arriving with the entire Inquisition in response to an attack on Caterina. He's overconfident in his skills, noting that he would even take down Abel, a member of the Vatican for getting in his way. To him, a friend of a the Methuselah is an enemy of his.
➜ Terran > Methuselah, yet he will do anything to do accomplish his goals.
As the fight between Abel and Petros enfolds right outside Ion's bedroom window, Petros shows that he believes that the Methuselah are unholy creatures that need to be slain by the holy sword of the vatican. It's a reflection on the racial tensions between the humans and the vampires. He acknowledges that his opponents have extra-human powers, he would even go as far as to inject himself with a substance that allows him mimic their acceleration. It's a hypocrisy, but soon it would be revealed that Petros would even inject himself to win a fight. His weapon, the Screamer, is his pride and joy. He truly looks the part of a knight and it's been imbedding into his psyche that he is one.
➜ the honor of a warrior > the outcome of a match and honor as the individual > species
Even though the fight ends and Abel is believed to be dead, Petros doesn't gloat in his victory. He congratulates Abel for being a worthy opponent and that he does deserve respect. Later on, after he gets blown up and he gets healed by AX, he states that Tres is a worthy warrior. Additionally, when Ion does the brave thing and ask Petros that in exchange for his life, if he would help him stop Radu's rampage, Petros doesn't take it. He regards the small Methuselah with honor and respect: he doesn't take Ion's life, but he gained respect for him.
Despite the fact that just a few hours earlier they were enemies, Petros values the individual as a warrior because of the connotations that comes with it: courage, honor, duty, perseverance, loyalty and integrity, there is nothing unholy about such things.
As the series progresses, you see that Petros has defrosted slightly. He's more open to the other race (only slightly, though), especially when Esther is kidnapped by Suleyman's niece. He doesn't assume it was just as simple and starts to mistrust those within the Vatican.
Finally, for a man as stern as he is. He has a soft spot for children and small animals, but he won't let anyone know. It hurts his pride too much to let people know that he is willing to adore the small and the cute.
THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
Petros is a warrior; he is a knight of the Inquisition, a part of Pope's sword. So, why would anyone assume that he would dare think that this small animal was so adorable. Petros glanced from left to right, attempting to see if anyone was looking before he knelt down and picked up the small cat. It hissed slightly as the large man attempted to adjust it so that it was comfortable.
"What fiend would abandon something so small and helpful? Surely, they have no honor as an individual." Petros muttered as he carried the small kitten back inside of Rome's protective walls. He could have taken it to Doctor Woodsworth, but then the notorious AX would know that the Knight of Destruction was harboring something so cute. Oh, what would that Father Tres think? Father Nightroad would surely do something utterly shameless and unforgivable as to tease him endlessly.
He reached the conclusion that only a man of his caliber could nurse this being to health again. For days he labored over this small being, he fed him (now named Gabriel) the best milk and the freshest fish from the Vatican kitchen. One day, he was dispatched for a mission not too far from Rome and he had to leave little Gabriel. The Knight knew that it was his duty to go and he expected the small animal to comply with the desire of God's holy work. And so, he left little Gabriel thinking that no one would ever notice a small ginger cat roaming the Vatican halls. When he returned from his mission a few days later (pathetic Methuselah; they would dare think that their powers could ever stand up to the Screamer and the Holy Knight of Destruction- surely they were hundreds year old fools), there was an uproar in the Ministry of Foreign affairs. Apparently, someone had ripped up all of Abel Nightroad's paperwork and reports to be submitted to Caterina herself.
"Pathetic, you call "leaving your doors wide open" security, Nightroad? Fool!" He would get a few jabs in there, anything was worth seeing Nightroad protest and fail to do so. Though, Caterina's glare scared someone as fearless as he; he thanked God for blessing him with a more lenient boss.
Though they would never know this, Petros instantly knew who the culprit was and secretly he smiled. A very welcome home indeed; that cat would grow up to be a wonderful Inquisitor.
FIRST-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
[Suddenly, it is raining Knights! A flurry of blue hair and armor and mail crashes to the floor of the castle. It doesn't keep him grounded for long, he jumps back on his feet and starts exclaiming:]
WHO WOULD DARE INTERFERE IN THE TIME GIVING TO BRIEFING MEN? I, PETROS ORICINI, THE VATICAN'S KNIGHT OF DESTRUCTION DEMAND TO KNOW WHO WOULD DO SOMETHING AS LOW AS THIS!
[When no one answers him, he lets out a small growl.] Cowards, the lot of them. To dare to a member of the Inquisition and then hide. Have they no shame? Have they no honor? SHOW YOURSELVES, PERHAPS I WILL SPARE YOU DEATH IF YOU SHOW YOUR FACE.
[As if from habit, he reaches down to his side, trying to find something. He doesn't realize it that people can see him spazz out, but he starts patting himself down for it.
wait for the rage.
Wait.
Oh, there it is.] CRETINS! YOU DO NOT STEAL A MAN'S WEAPON; YOU FIGHT RATHER THAN HIDE. EMERGE FROM THE SHADOWS, I DEMAND IT!
INTENT: HE IS GOING TO FIND THE HERETICS!
