Amidst all this United States election fervor, with the speeches and the mudslinging and the speculation, may I just say something publicly
( Read more... )
This is exactly what has been on my mind lately, and actually just yesterday I got kinda freaked out thinking about it and had a talk with someone to quell my feelings. It scares me when I realize how much it's all just perception.. playing the public like a strategy game.. and how so many people are so easily influenced, and are so certain of their opinions when really their opinions aren't based on much of anything stable at all.
It scares me when I think about how that's the way our president will be elected.. and will be every time in the future too. Is democracy really so great if the people who cast the votes aren't properly educated about their decision? It makes it almost meaningless, like a popularity contest.. when such important things hang in the balance..
Unfortunately, none of this is really going to change no matter how much people like you or me express this sentiment, and that's what scares me.
Yeeeeeeeesh. My thoughts exactly too! It is really scary how many people are likely going to vote in this election with a very shaky idea of each party's values. And especially with how they'll pertain to the country's future.
rofl, I'd ideally like to think I'll make a tiny ripple on the internet with this post;;; But seeing as it'll be distributed mostly among people who can't vote, yeah, we just have to hope that American people somehow regain their senses between now and election day ?___?
I wish I could say something cool, but honestly, I have no interest in the elections and haven't been keeping up with them :| But ♥ for you for this post, I wish more people could see things like this.
In addition, the party standings have truly changed over the course of time, so we are seeing Republican ideas with Democratic candidates, and so forth, so we can't go will parties alone now. It's so disappointing to see people smash the other party, without giving a decent defense on why thei party should be counted.
Yeah, it's so true that these party leaders have pretty different views from what's typically considered right-wing or left-wing. So we'll just have to see what it's like in practice; I personally can't wait for the presidential debates >:D
