Did she have tenant insurance? That should recoup most of her costs, once she files, although in the meantime, she'd need clothes and such!

I hope she's ok!

Hi, I'm the friend.

No insurance, although I'm hoping there will be some kind of damage reparation from the building they're busy dealing with cleanup right now. I'm alive and still a bit in shock but ok. Thanks.

Glad to hear that you are well.

What sorts of things will you need in the interim?

Right now I'm looking for a place asap.

Immediate needs are for a couple of changes of clothing to get through the week and a towel.

Next week I'll be able to go in and assess the damage at least.

I have an old set of ceramic plates and a few mugs I can offer her if she needs that sort of thing. Cait has that old TV in the living room she's looking to give away if that's something she might be interested in. I *MIGHT* have an old afghan or two as well, but I'll have to see if I can find them before I'm sure I can offer them. I might have thrift stored them already - not sure.

That's all that's coming to mind immediately, but if she's interested in either of the items I am sure I (and Cait) can offer, just let me know.

Thanks for the offer.

Good news is that they will allow tenants in sometime after next week so I will be able to assess the damage at that point. Right now I'm just getting through the next week.

Make sure she's in touch with her insurance company as soon as possible. They'll be able to give her a better idea of what she's going to need based on her coverage.

Hi, I have no insurance. Thanks for the thought though.

Ideas of things that might help:

What size clothes does she need? Does anyone have an old laptop she can borrow? If where she's staying in the meantime isn't furnished, she may need dishes/blankets/other household stuff. I'm guessing she has no pets.

*hugs* Poor woman.

No pets thank goodness. Some of the others in the building lost pets. :(

Since there is a clothing swap coming up this weekend, you should ask her what her sizes are, and her basic style-sense (things she will/won't wear), then we can put aside anything that might be appropriate for her. I'd be willing to take charge of that if you are not going to the swap.

Oh, and I forgot to mention I probably also have a myriad of household goods I could pass along once she has a new place to keep them!

Thank you!

I'm somewhere around size 7/8, usually wear a lot of black. ;)

Heard back from the building that they will be allowing tenants in sometime after next week - so I will be able to assess the damage then at least.

Right now I just need clothes and a towel to get through the week.

Looking for a nonsmoking place though as it will not be livable for at least 2-3 months.
