Got this book from my mom about the nautical origin of many sayings. Vic's kennel name is Touchango (which Mia and I kept pronouncing - spelled phoentically here - tuch-ango with the emphasis on ango - like tango.) Well, it is really Touch and Go. So, want to know where that saying comes from ( Read more... )

The term "keep a stiff upper lip" came from the practice of sewing up a deceased sailor into his hammock before throwing him overboard. They ran the needle through the upper lip to prevent sailors from jumping ship (faking their death). I learned that while living in Boston, on one of several tours of Old Ironsides also known as the Constitution, the oldest ship in the Navy. ML

Another language geek!!! Yay!!!

DId you know that the nursery song "London Bridge is Falling Down" is from the time of the Black Plague? "Ashes to Ashes, We All Fall Down." Isn't that sick & twisted in a fascinating kinda way?

Touchango has put out some nice dogs. I just love Ari - don't know if he's still around or in the states but he was a cool dog...

The only I know well is VIc and I LOVE him. He has one of the best temperaments around (think Golden Retriever - we call him a Bolden) and came out of the box knowing how to do agility. I didn't think you could breed instinct in for weaves but he is proving me wrong :-)

I also know a cousin - Stir - who is a super nice dog as well with alarming ground speed.

I only ever met Dot and Ari, and the Dot puppy that Julia (?) in Colorado kept. Nice dogs. I've always liked the dogs on their website, too :-) Ari was like a Bolden...

Dot is a sweet dog but a little too crazed for my personal taste but that my be Julia. Vic sounds like Ari. Funny how in certain lines (and I am talking Aussies here because I know them best but still...) the males can be one way and the females another. I *kind of* know Vic's sister and I can say I like the boys (Vic, Stir) better than the girls (Zap, Star & Dot.)
