and a random question. how do you get a laptop to recognize a monitor you plug in to it?

Yes. My Mother-in-law moved in with us. There was an issue of my Brother-in-law deciding that a cousin from Vegas going to school at UNR was more important than having a secure place for his Mom to live.

First thing to try for the Monitor is to press Fn+F8 I think...Look for a little blue picture of a monitor on the laptop's keyboard.
