Here's the thing Megan. I'm pretty sure I was the one who made the joke about Phelps' fans being young. And it was just that, a JOKE. And you know why I can make it? Because I myself cheered for Phelps during the Olympics and hope to see him continually raise the bar as he has, and I'm 29. But keep in mind that Phelps himself is young, and thus so are many of his fans. The passing comment was more a silly statement of observation and was certainly not intended to be offensive, particularly in light of the fact that it was implicitly self-deprecating.
Again, please, understand the context of statements before you comment. And yes, some of us are fans of these guys precisely because they are great swimmers with an inspiring work ethic. It just works out conveniently that they also aren't hard on the eyes. Just because we joke about their attractiveness doesn't mean we don't appreciate them for their talent.
